The Waste Land - Piero Martinello
This project is a series of intimate portraits of young intoxicated people, photographed during or after parties, festivals, and raves. We are accustomed to hearing about contemporary nightlife culture and its consequences. The images that we are used to seeing are those of packed nightclubs, strobe lights, the unbridled pace, and thousands of heads and bodies caught in movement. But, beyond these clichés, who are these young people? The intention of this work is to achieve a new perspective on an issue that has been mentioned so much in the last 20 years. Each images reveals its subject in a psychologically different light. They are captured in a moment of euphoria and ecstasy as the music and drugs embrace the individual. The expressions; the eyes; the gestures, the hazy nearness, leaves endless room for stories, allowing the observer to communicate with the subject.
